Joel 2:1-6

God commands Joel to blast the alarm in order to strick fear in the hearts of the people of the nation; in order that they would return to God and God would relent of His all consuming plague. The overall theme of this segment is: be afraid, be stirred up, be shocked at the horror that ravages the land and threatens to destroy the people of God. The purpose for fear is so that the people then and now would reverence and honor God as we always should.
Vs. 1-2 - Wake Up!
Vs. 3–6 - Fire Devours & Anguish Grips The People
Psalm 103:8-16
“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.”
